The first APHA Youth Horsemanship Camp will be held this summer in Europe. Alternating with the APHA Youth World Games, this year’s event will take place July 26-28 outside of Lyon, France. Jointly sponsored by the American Paint Horse Association and the France Paint Horse Association, the event is open to all AJPHA members and their horses.
APHA judge Butch Carse will coach the youth for three full days in a wide variety of events in addition to introducing them to judging. It’s a unique opportunity for kids to improve their horsemanship skills, to learn what judges are looking for, and to make new friends with AJPHA members from different countries.
Participants who would like to try out their new skills in APHA-approved competition are invited to stay a few extra days for the FPHA’s two-judge show July 30-31. A full slate of Walk Trot, Novice Youth, Youth, Amateur, Open and Solid Paint-bred classes will be judged by Karen Banister and Sandy Jirkovsky. Youth participating in the horsemanship camp are eligible for reduced entry fees and a free one-day clinic with the judges the day after the show.
The camp and show will be held at the Parc du Cheval Rhône-Alpes, a beautiful equestrian facility in Chazey-sur-Ain, just 45 minutes from Lyon, France. Registration is limited to 24 AJPHA members (and open to all breeds). Complete details and registration forms will be available mid-March in English, French and German. For more information, contact APHA Representative Irene Stamatelakys.
